A knifeman pulled out a blade in a corner shop in front of shocked children before he was attacked with a machete.
Michael Walker made threats with the weapon at the Go Local Extra store on Roughwood Drive in Kirkby "while vulnerable persons were present", Liverpool Magistrates' Court heard today. The ECHO understands that the the 34-year-old was then pursued down the street in a car and had a machete pulled on him at the junction of Gilescroft Avenue and Jarrett Road.
He suffered a head injury and was rushed to hospital as a result. But Walker - of Stavordale Road in Moreton, Wirral - "refused to assist a prosecution" against his attackers.

He appeared for sentence this afternoon, Tuesday, after admitting affray and possession of a bladed article in a public place in connection with the incident - which occurred at around 2.30pm on June 2. But the defendant was sent onwards to Liverpool Crown Court due to the seriousness of the case.
Walker was warned by a judge that he is likely to be handed a prison sentence. He will next appear on August 16, and has been released on bail until that date.
District Judge Wendy Lloyd told Walker: "This case is too serious to be dealt with here. You are going to go to the crown court.
"Although there are other circumstances in this case which are perhaps a little unusual, you will be dealt with for what you were doing rather than what anyone else did at a later point. There is an overwhelming likelihood of you going to prison, it's just a case of how long."
Police carried out forensic examinations around an abandoned bicycle following the disturbance, as well as door-to-door enquiries in the area. Three others were arrested as part of the investigation, but were later released on bail pending further enquiries by Merseyside Police.
A 40 year-old man, from Kirkby, was held on suspicion of wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, affray, dangerous driving, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place. Meanwhile, a 49-year-old man was detained on suspicion of arson and assisting an offender and a 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
