Man attacked in Boxing Day brawl outside social club

Two men attacked a man in a rumpus outside a social club.

Connor Baker and Jamie Stephenson both admitted the assault on Tyrone Anderson outside the Weston-super-Mare Social Club in Devonshire Road.

Baker, 24, of Bournville Road, Weston-super-Mare and Stephenson, 25, of Colleridge Road, Weston-super-Mare, pleaded guilty to affray on Boxing Day last year.

Judge James Patrick handed each a nine months prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, with unpaid work and compensation.

He told the men: "You are both here for an extremely ugly piece of public disorder around Christmas.

"I deferred sentence.

"You have both made some progress towards ridding yourselves of binge drinking and cocaine use.

"There is still work to do.

"If I see either of you again it will be straight inside for a breach."

Giles Nelson, prosecuting, said the man went "face-to-face" with Tyrone Anderson when trouble flared outside the venue.

He told Bristol Crown Court Baker and Stephenson threw punches at Mr Anderson and he went to the ground.

Stephenson denied then kicking Mr Anderson to the head.

Mr Anderson suffered a cut and bump to his head and a fracture to his forehead, the court heard.

Mark Worsley, defending Stephenson, said his client had been working hard and had not been taking cocaine or drinking.

Sam Jones, defending Baker, said: "He now avoids binge drinking.

"He has remained clean for the last six months."
