Man attacked his ex, stared through her window and bombarded her with messages in string of sinister incidents

A man stared through his ex’s window, called her offensive names and sent her 77 Facebook messages in a day.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Mark Davies had earlier ran into the kitchen of his former partner home, dragged her to the floor, assaulted her and ran away.

In a victim personal statement read out at court, Tammy Watkins said: “He needs to learn to stay away from me.”

Thomas Stanway, prosecuting, said a non-molestation order was imposed by Merthyr Tydfil court last year.

The court heard Davies breached the order for the first time on December 22, 2019 by going to her home.

Prosecutors said Ms Watkins opened the door before realising who it was and the defendant ran into her kitchen and dragged her to the floor.

Ms Stanway told the court she hit her head on the floor and Davies pushed her, then ran off.

He breached the order again on January 2 by going to her home and staring through the window.

The court heard the third breach happened on January 4 when the defendant sent Ms Watkins 77 messages on Facebook, calling her offensive names.

In her sentencing remarks, Judge Nicola Jones said: “It was relentless that day.”

There was a further breach on January 6 when he approached her in the street and blocked her path.

When Davies was interviewed by the police, he stated he did not accept the order because he was not there when it was made. He claimed she contacted him.

Mr Stanway argued the breaches were persistent and told the court the defendant had 60 previous offences on his record.

Davies, 24, from Swansea Road in Merthyr Tydfil, admitted assault by beating and four counts of breaching a non-molestation order.

John Ryan, defending, said he was not able to cope being away from his child.

Judge Jones said she would take into account the prison sentence would be more difficult during lockdown. She jailed Davies for 14 months and made a five-year restraining order.
