A man was brutally attacked by a machete-wielding thug after being distracted by the attacker's pal.
The victim was struck on the back of the neck during the appalling street ambush in Ellesmere Port .
The 34-year-old was left with what detectives termed "a nasty injury" after being set upon from behind.
The victim was distracted by another man near to the Naylor Green roundabout during the sickening assault at 11.15pm on Friday, July 19.
Officers from Ellesmere Port CID are now appealing for information.
The victim went to hospital and has since been discharged.
Detective Constable Timothy Cope said: “We believe that prior to the attack one of the offenders was hanging around in an entry on Naylor Green.
“If anyone saw anything suspicious on that day then please get in touch. This is a very serious assault which has left a nasty injury.”
