Man attacked former partner's new boyfriend with solar lamp

A thug attacked his ex-partner’s new boyfriend with a solar lamp and punched him in the face after spending the day drinking, a court heard.

Justin Hollis, 38, was subject to a restraining order against former partner Zoe Blackett made in 2014. The following year a serious breach of the order saw him sent to prison for two years and after that Hollis said he became homeless.

But on July 6 this year Hollis went to his former partner’s home in Cardiff where her new partner, Elliot James, also was.

Prosecutor Bethan Evans told Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday: “Miss Blacklett went downstairs and opened the back door and saw the defendant go into the garden.

“She told him he shouldn’t be there and he immediately became aggressive and abusive. He shouted: ‘Go and get my daughter I want to give her a kiss’. He continued to raise his voice.

“Elliot James told the defendant to leave and the defendant responded: ‘What are you gassing for? It’s between me and her’.

“James walked into the garden and Hollis picked up a glass solar panel light and swung it at James. There was a cut to the hand to James.

“Immediately after the complainant ran at the defendant, who ran around the car, throwing punches.

“Four punches were connected with the face of James. Elliot and Miss Blacklett retreated into the house."

Mr James received injuries to his hand and face after the incident. The police were called and Hollis was arrested after running away from officers when he first saw them.

The court heard the incident was the fourth time the order had been breached.

Cora Sorenson, defending, said that Hollis had been homeless since the break-up and had “fallen into a spiral in relation to his alcohol and drug-taking”.

Hollis, of Heol Trelai, Creigiau , admitted one count of breaching a restraining order and one count of assault and was jailed for a total of 11 months.
