Man attacked by machete gang in broad daylight as he left the gym

A businessman was the victim of a vicious attack carried out by a machete wielding gang who jumped on him as he left a gym in Dublin. The victim, who is in his 40s was continuously stabbed in a car park in broad daylight after he had visited his local gym in Finglas and has been left with severe injuries on his face along with multiple stab wounds on his chest.

The victim, who is said to have remained conscious after the assault, was rushed to Mater Hospital after locals rushed to his aid. The brutal incident is the second machete attack incident this month, the Daily Star reports.

A source said: “It’s absolutely shocking, he was walking back to his car when he was attacked. This happened in the morning. There were lots of people going about their business where it happened.

''The attackers jumped out of a car and carried out the assault before fleeing the scene. People can’t believe it.”

Gardai cordoned off the scene yesterday and were carrying out a technical examination. It’s not yet known if the brutal attack is related to a machete attack in the same area on October 2, in which a mugging victim had his finger almost severed.

A 49-year-old man, named by the Irish Independent as Sam, was mugged by an assailant with a machete at around 6am as he was on his way to the gym in Finglas. The attacker put the machete to his throat and shouted “give me your f***ing money”, according to the victim.

“I think he was on drugs,” Sam added. “He kept the knife to my neck. It was a big blade, like one you would use for cutting sugar cane.

“He kept on asking for money and I told him I had none. I had a backpack with my towel and my gym card, but I had no money, and he got really aggressive."

Police do not know if the incident is linked to a similar machete attack that happened in the same area on October, 2 (Dublin Live)

A scuffle followed and Sam said: "I was using the backpack as a shield and he was attacking me with the knife. I got cut in the face, and one of my fingers was nearly cut off." Following the latest incident, a police spokesman said: “No arrests have been made at this stage of this ongoing investigation.

“Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward. Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Main Street area of Finglas between 10am and 11am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Finglas Garda Station on 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
