A man was rushed to hospital after being attacked by a group of men armed with “a variety of weapons” in Dumbarton.

Police say the 33-year-old was treated in the Royal Alexandria Hospital after he was targeted by the group in Ardoch Cresecent.

The attack happened at 11.50pm on Saturday and the armed men fled in two cars in the direction of Glencairn Road.

Cops are appealing to local people to help catch the culprits described as  “a group of men brandishing a variety of weapons”.

Area Commander, Chief Inspector Scott Carlin, said: “Violence and antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly. We have additional officers on patrol in the area and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to them.

“It is important that we trace those responsible and colleagues in CID are following a positive line of enquiry however I would urge anyone with any information that may assist this enquiry to contact police.”
