Man attacked and robbed of 'large quantity of cash' by armed thug in Rutherglen

A man was targeted by an armed robber in Rutherglen yesterday.

The 45-year-old had been putting a holdall bag into the boot of his car in Hamilton Road, near the town's Main Street, at around 2pm on Sunday March 31) when he was attacked.

The suspect assaulted him with a blunt weapon and took the bag containing a "large quantity" of cash.

He then got into a silver Ford Focus vehicle and made off up Hamilton Road, towards Stonelaw Road.

Police in Cambuslang are appealing for information to trace the thug.

The victim did not need medical treatment.

Detective Constable Craig MacKenzie, from Cambuslang CID, said:

“This was clearly a planned and targeted attack, and although nobody was seriously hurt, a significant amount of money was taken.

“We believe the Ford Focus vehicle that the suspect was travelling had been closely following the 45 year-old man in his own car a short time earlier.

“The Ford Focus has a distinctive “GB” sticker on the rear, and had a number of passengers in it at the time. We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this car in the area either before or after the robbery.

“Officers are currently carrying out CCTV enquiries but we are asking that anyone who may have their own personal CCTV on Hamilton Road, or who may have dash-cam footage from that area to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police via 101, quoting incident number 2046 of Sunday 31 March 2019.

Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given in confidence.
