Man attacked and has electric bike robbed while cycling to work

A man was hit over the head and had his electric bike stolen when he was cycling to work..

The victim, in his 30s, was stopped at the traffic lights on the Belmont Road and West Derby road junction when he was approached by a thug.

The thief asked for a cigarette and when the victim refused he was hit over the head from behind.

The blow caused the victim to fall off his bike and to the floor. The suspect then continued to smack him a number of times before making off with the bike.

It happened at around 5.24am on Sunday, May 2 and the thief made off along Belmont Road in the direction of Anfield.

The bike stolen was a Silver ROCK electric bicycle with a black and white battery pack attached.

Merseyside police have now released an image of a man who they want to speak to about the incident.

Officers believe the man in the picture may have information to assist them with their investigation into the aggravated theft.

The victim was not seriously hurt during the incident.

Detective Constable Josh Banks said: "This was a shocking attack leaving a man injured and we are determined to find the person responsible.

"We believe that the male pictured may have information to help with our investigations, so if you know him please come forward.
