A man was assaulted with a hammer by a gang of youths in a terrifying late-night attack.
The incident happened at around 2.30am on Sunday, June 14 in Celbridge, Co Kildare.
The victim was returning home when he was set upon by the mob.
He required stitches to his kneecap and received "severe bruising".
Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the Walled Gardens area of the town at the time to come forward with any information they might have.
Garda Sean O'Mahoney told Kildare Today on Kfm radio: "There was a fairly serious assault on Sunday morning, June 14, at 2.30am.
"A young man in the Walled Gardens in Celbridge was returning home to his house when he was set upon by a number of youths, we don't know exactly how many.
"They assaulted him with a hammer and he received stitches to his kneecap and severe bruising.
"We are looking for anyone who was in the Walled Gardens area on Sunday morning from 2.30am to 3am who may have seen any number of youths around, or may have dashcam footage, to please contact Celbridge Garda Station."
