Man assaulted during attempt to steal his mobile phone in Kilmarnock

Detectives have today launched an appeal for witnesses after a man was left “badly shaken” following an assault during an attempt to rob him of his mobile phone in Kilmarnock.

The 21-year-old was sitting in a vehicle in the town's Domino's Pizza car park on Titchfield Street when the frightening incident happened at 7.30pm on Sunday night.

He was approached by a man who pulled open his car door and tried to steal his phone.

Both men struggled before the suspect ran off, empty handed, in the direction of Gilmour Street, running past McDonald's.

The assault victim did not require medical treatment, however, police say he has been left badly shaken by the incident.

The suspect is aged between 30 and 40 and has a brown beard. He was wearing a dark grey hooded top.

Detective Constable Robert Graham from Kilmarnock CID said: “We are carrying out extensive inquiries including door-to-door and checking all available CCTV in order to trace the person responsible for this crime.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw the suspect in the area or noticed anyone acting suspiciously or out of place to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call CID officers at Kilmarnock Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 3410 of 29 October, 2019.

Alternatively, if you wish to give information anonymously, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
