Man assaulted by four men in Easterhouse who set fire to stolen car after speeding off

A man was seriously assaulted by four men in Glasgow who then burnt out the car they were travelling in, as part of what police believe was a targeted attack.

It happened at around 9.20pm on Saturday night in Wardie Road, Easterhouse when the 29-year-old victim was stood on a grass verge close to the nearby One O One shop.

Four men got out a car, a blue Volkswagen which officers have since discovered was stolen from Edinburgh, and attacked him.

The victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment where his condition is described as 'stable'.

Following the attack, the man got back into the car and sped off in the direction of Edinburgh Road before the vehicle was found to be on fire at Sandymount Cemetery around 20 minutes later.

The car has now been seized and will be examined by forensics officers.

Detective Sergeant Colin Thapar said: “The motive for this attack remains unclear, however I do believe the victim was the intended target and I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the attack to contact us.

“In particular if anyone has a dash cam, I would ask them to check their footage as it could hold footage which could assist our investigation.

“Also, if anyone saw the VW vehicle when it was being driven in the area, I would urge them to contact us.  Any small piece of information could prove vital in our enquiries.”
