Man 'assaulted' and has car 'robbed' in frightening incident in Clonmel, Co Tipperary

A man was allegedly assaulted and had his car robbed in a frightening incident in Tipperary on Saturday afternoon.

Gardai are investigating after the alleged assault in Clonmel at 3pm on Green Street.

The man, aged in his 30s, was allegedly assaulted before his car was stolen - the man did not need medical attention.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released without charge.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged robbery incident that occurred on Green Street, Clonmel at approximately 3pm on Saturday 12 September, 2020.

"It’s understood a 30-year-old man was assaulted and had his car taken during the incident. The injured man declined medical treatment. His car was recovered a short time later by Gardaí and the occupant, a man in his 30s, was arrested and detained at Clonmel Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. 

"He was later released without charge. Investigations into the matter are ongoing."
