Man asleep in car on the M62 found by 'surprised' police

A man was found asleep in his car on the M62 after responding to reports of a broken down vehicle.

A Highways England patrol was called to reports of a blocked lane on the M62 between junctions 12 and 11 near Warrington during the early hours of this morning.

But when the patrol arrived they found a man asleep in his car, on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

Police were called to the scene and the driver was tested and found not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. His car was seized by police because it was not insured and the driver did not have a valid licence.

The driver was not arrested.

North West Motorway Police posted a message on social media at around 5.40am today which read: "Highways England patrols were surprised when they responded to a live lane broken down vehicle on M62 bet j12 and 11 to find a male asleep in the car.

Police attended. Male gave a zero reading on the breath test and negative drugs wipe, but veh seized for no licence/insurance."
