Officers arrested a South Side man hiding in bushes Tuesday after he allegedly shot into the air during an attempted carjacking and ran onto the Edens Expressway.

Deonta Mitchell allegedly confronted a driver in a Target parking lot in the 4600 block of West Foster Avenue, according to Chicago police.

When Mitchell, 26, failed to steal the car, he fired a single shot in the air about 9:10 p.m. and ran away, police said.

He walked down a southbound ramp onto I-94 and hid in some bushes, where officers found and arrested him minutes later, police said.

Mitchell, of Stony Island Park, is charged with a felony count of attempted carjacking, two felony counts of armed robbery, discharging a firearm, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and reckless conduct.

He is expected to appear in court Thursday.
