Man arrested south of Adelaide after allegedly throwing roof tiles at police

Police allege a roof tile thrown by the man hit an officer.

A police officer has been allegedly struck by a roof tile, and police vehicles, houses and a business have been damaged during an incident south of Adelaide.

SA Police officers were called to Burgoyne Drive at Old Reynella about 6:00pm on Saturday after receiving reports of a man causing damage to vehicles on the road.

The man climbed onto the roof of a house when officers arrived and began throwing roof tiles at them, a police statement said.

He also threw tiles at neighbouring properties and cars, damaging police vehicles, houses and a laundromat.

Police will allege one of the roof tiles struck an officer, but did not cause injuries.

The man came down after two and a half hours on the roof.

A 20-year-old from Glenelg was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and property damage.

He is likely to be refused bail, SA Police said.

He is scheduled to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday.
