Man arrested over thefts, assaults and threats at Ayrshire Home Bargains

A man has been arrested and charged with alleged thefts, assaults and threats at a Home Bargains store in Ayrshire.

Police were called to the store around 2.30pm yesterday, Thursday, March 4 after reports of a man threatening and assaulting staff and customers.

An eye witness described a disturbance at the store in which a man allegedly became aggressive.

She told the Record: “I saw about seven Home Bargains staff trying to control this man.

“I was trying to go in but stood back because of what was happening.”

A 31-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with theft, assaults and threatening and abusive behaviour following a report of a disturbance at a premises in Riverway Retail Park, Irvine.

"The incident occurred around 2.35pm on Thursday, 4 March. The man is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Friday, 5 March."
