Man arrested over theft of $50k of donated goods from Foodbank SA warehouse

A man has faced court after about $50,000 worth of donated goods allegedly stolen from the Foodbank SA warehouse were found in the boot of his car.

The warehouse in Edwardstown in Adelaide's south was targeted sometime after 9pm on June 18, with staff discovering the theft when the weekend ended.

Police identified a suspect and searched the southern suburbs for him.

In the early hours of Wednesday, police stopped a man at a traffic stop on Main South Road at Hackham during which they found perfume and make-up allegedly stolen from the warehouse in the car boot.

Later police went to a house in Aldinga Beach and found more stolen items.

The Aldinga man, 43, was arrested and charged with serious criminal trespass and theft.

The man was refused bail and remanded in custody after appearing in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court.

The stolen items were returned to Foodbank SA.

Foodbank South Australia chief executive, Greg Pattinson, said he was pleased at least some of the items had been recovered.

"We are of course still quite upset and disappointed that someone would target us like that," he said.

He said anybody who felt they had no other option but to resort to crime to put food on the table, should put their hand up and ask for help.

"We're non-judgmental," he said.

Police did not rule out further arrests and warned the public to keep a look out for stolen items advertised for sale on online marketplaces. Many of the items have been discontinued and are not sold in stores anymore.

Two occupants in the car were reported for unrelated offences.

Police have asked anyone with information about the break-in or the stolen goods to contact Crime Stoppers.
