Man arrested over serious assault in Cork city

A man has been arrested over a serious assault that happened nearly a month ago.

On Thursday, September 12 a man in his 40s was attacked on St Patrick's Street, close to the junction with Academy Street, in Cork city shortly after 9pm.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital, where his condition was and still is believed to be serious.

Gardai today arrested a man in his 40s in relation to the assault.

He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Gurranabraher Garda Station.

In a previous appeal for information, Superintendent Michael Comyns said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the Patrick Street area from 8.30pm to 9.30pm to get in touch with us.

"We are particularly anxious to speak to the occupants of several cars which were on Patrick Street at the time of the assault. Also, anyone who may have any mobile phone footage or dash cam footage, to please contact us."
