Man arrested over ‘racist tweets’ targeting England players after Euro final

A man has been arrested over allegedly posting a racist tweet about the England football team players following the Euro clash with Italy.

The suspect, aged 37, from Ashton-Upon-Mersey, self-presented at Cheadle Heath police station on Wednesday.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of an offence under Section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act.

Later the man was released under investigation.

The post in question was made on the evening of 11 July following the Italy v England Euro 2020 final at Wembley.
