Man arrested over horror M8 fatal road crash released without charge

A man who was arrested after a horror M8 road smash has been released without charge.

It comes after three men died in an early morning crash on Sunday September 19.

The victims have been formally identified as David Paton and Manveer "Manny" Benning, both 27, and 31-year-old Mark Downie.

A further five men were taken to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.

A 35-year-old had been arrested for traffic offences in connection but has now been released.

The crash happened at around 5am near Bishopton shutting the busy motorway off for hours.

The men had been traveling in a blue Audi Q7 which left the road on the M8 westbound near to junction 31.

Investigations into the tragic crash are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

"He has since been released without charges at this time.

“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 0860 of 19/09/21.”
