Man arrested over firearm and drug offences in Belle Isle

A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearm and drug offences following a police raid in Belle Isle.

Police vehicles and forensics officers were seen at a home on Windmill Road, Belle Isle, Leeds after West Yorkshire Police executed a warrant this morning (Thursday).

The 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and drug offences. He remains in police custody.

A woman who works nearby, but did not wish to be named, told LeedsLive police had been at the property since around 5.30am.

She said: “Some of them were wearing white suits and carrying stuff out of the house. They had sniffer dogs there too.

“I’ve never seen anything like this round here before.”

Nicola Bray, 36, who runs the nearby Windmill Cafe & Takeaway, said at 6.40am there were two police vans, a police car and a 4x4 at the scene.

She added: "It’s not often you see loads in one place but it was this morning, there were loads [of police]."

A statement from West Yorkshire Police said: "A warrant was executed at an address on Windmill Road, Belle Isle, this morning.

"A 27-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and drug offences.

"He remains in police custody."
