Police have arrested a man they say "shamelessly" stole a bike from a Civic bike rack.

ACT Policing arrested a 42-year-old man and charged him in relation to a bike theft on Sunday.

A blue Surly Ogre brand ladies bike was stolen from a rack at the Alinga Street end of City Walk, about 6pm.

Police say a man rode it away along Mort Street and into Bunda Street.

Officers say they recognised the man from CCTV footage of the incident and arrested him at 9.40am on Friday. The 42-year-old was released on bail and is expected to appear at ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police are still trying to find the stolen bike.

Anyone with further information about the bike theft, can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting reference 6683991.
