A man has been arrested over the brutal murder of a homeless chef in Cork.
Timmy Hourihane was found close to death beside his burning tent on the Mardyke Walk in the city at around 12.45am on Sunday, October 13 2019.
Timmy, in his 50s, had been the victim of a prolonged and vicious attack and was found badly beaten.
He had been living in the tent, which had been set ablaze, alongside scores of other people.
He was rushed to Cork University Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
A man in his 20s was arrested in relation to his death by gardai in Cork today, Cork Beo reports.
This is the first arrest made in connection with the ongoing investigation and the suspect is currently being held at the Bridewell Garda Station.
Timmy's family said following his death: "The family of the late Timothy Hourihane are naturally devastated and are asking that their privacy be respected and they be given space to grieve at this sad time.
"Please give them time and space in this most difficult of times.
"The family would ask that people would give any assistance that they can to An Garda Síochána to help bring some closure to the matter."
