Man arrested over alleged hate crime after knife incident in Llanelli

A man has been arrested over an alleged racial hate crime after an incident in Station Road, Llanelli.

Police were called to the incident on Tuesday afternoon after receiving a report that a man had threatened another man with a knife while shouting abusive and racist language.

Officers attended and arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of affray. He is currently in police custody.

Reports came in around 4.30pm on Tuesday, June 18th from witnesses around Waterloo Street just off of Station Road.

Nearby residents said a lane behind the Rolling Mill pub was cordoned off and that there was a heavy police presence at the scene.

An eyewitness said: "I heard shouting and the police dogs barking and then an officer shouting 'do not make any sudden movements'. It was quite a shock."

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police has said "Due to the nature of the threats and the language used, police are treating the incident as a racially aggravated hate crime.

"A specially trained officer has been allocated to support the complainant."
