Man arrested over alleged cyclist hit-and-run in Adelaide Hills

The man's damaged bike after the alleged hit-and-run on Sunday.

Police have arrested a man they believe seriously injured a cyclist in a hit-and-run crash in the Adelaide Hills on Sunday.

They say the 58-year-old Klemzig man collided with the male cyclist on Mount Barker Road on Sunday afternoon, leaving him badly injured.

Police said the driver noticed the crash, which knocked off his left side-view mirror, and exited the vehicle, but then got back in and drove off.

The cyclist is still recovering at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a stable condition.

Information received from Crime Stoppers led Major Crash officers to a house in Klemzig today where the Toyota HiLux ute allegedly involved in the collision was seized for forensic examination.

An image of the vehicle was released by police on Sunday night.

The alleged offender was charged with aggravated causing serious harm by dangerous driving, leaving the scene of a serious crash, driving with a suspended licence and aggravated driving without due care.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The arrest came on the first day of the Tour Down Under cycling race, which wound through the Adelaide Hills today before ending at Port Adelaide.

Many other amateur cyclists also take to the Adelaide Hills before and during the race.
