Man arrested on suspicion of violent disorder after major disturbance and crash in Gorton

A man has been arrested after major disturbance in Gorton at the weekend.

As reported in the Manchester Evening News two people were taken to hospital in ambulances after reports of a fight breaking out on Mount Road involving a number of men.

One man was seriously injured.

Pictures from the scene also showed two vehicles - a black Nissan X Trail and a white BMW badly damaged.

But police have now established a third vehicle - an Audi Q7 - was involved.

The Audi was left parked on nearby Sandringham Street after the Nissan crashed into the BMW.

Police believe there was dispute between people in the Nissan and Audi and the BMW, was damaged after getting caught up in the incident but was not involved.

The Audi was guarded by police before being removed on a trailer.

Police are still trying to establish how the man who was seriously hurt received his injuries.

But they confirmed he had not been stabbed or shot.

In a statement issued to the Manchester Evening News today Greater Manchester Police said: "Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously injured in Manchester.

"At around 12.35pm on Sunday 16th August 2020, police received a report of a disturbance on Mount Road, Gorton.

"Officers attended and established that a number of people were involved as well as two vehicles – an Audi Q7 and a Nissan X Trail.

"A 47-year-old man was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and released under investigation. Enquiries are ongoing."

In a statement issued at the weekend GMP said patrols in the area would be increased after the incident.

They have described the disturbance as an "isolated" incident.
