Man arrested on suspicion of murder as man dies after hotel incident

A man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following an incident at a hotel.

Police said the 30-year-old man had died in hospital after they were called to concerns for his safety at the Lloyds of Chester Hotel in Brook Street, Chester, in the early hours of yesterday morning (Wednesday, September 28), CheshireLive reports.

He was taken by ambulance to the Countess of Chester Hospital following the incident, which happened at around 1.50am yesterday, but he died a short time later. Following a number of enquiries, police arrested a 51-year-old local man on suspicion of murder on Station Road at around 6am this morning.

Cheshire Police said they were providing high-visibility patrols in the area to provide reassurance to members of the public. They said that anyone with concerns is welcome to speak to them.

The Lloyds of Chester Hotel is located at the end of Brook Street which is close to Chester train station and is widely listed on hotel bookings sites.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 1.50am on Wednesday 28 September police were called to concerns for the safety of a man at a hotel on Brook Street in Chester. The man, aged 30, was taken by ambulance to the Countess of Chester Hospital where he died a short time later.

"Following a number of enquiries detectives arrested a 51-year-old local man at around 6am on Station Road on suspicion of murder. Local officers are visible in the area to provide reassurance to members of the public and can speak to anyone who may have concerns."

One local resident, who did not wish to be identified, told CheshireLive they had seen crime scene investigation officers at the hotel over the course of the day. A visible police presence was in place, with cars patrolling on a regular basis, one police car parked outside and an officer posted at the entrance to the hotel.

The resident said: "We saw crime scene investigation officers there and various police officers over the course of the day. There's been a police officer at the entrance to the hotel all day too."
