Man arrested on suspicion of kidnap and dangerous driving after car crashes into wall following 'domestic disturbance'

A man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnap after a 'domestic disturbance' which saw a car plough into a wall in Rochdale.

The drama unfolded at around 7pm on Thursday evening.

Officers were called to a report of a domestic incident on Wardle Road in the town, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

"A man and a woman were believed to have been involved in a disturbance in a vehicle which later collided with a wall on Whitworth Road" a spokeswoman said.

The woman suffered injuries but they are not believed to be serious.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, assault, kidnap and driving with no insurance.

He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing the spokeswoman added.

Forensic officers were seen combing the area for clues and placing down yellow evidence markers (ASP)

The road, which runs north from the town centre, was closed in both directions for several hours following the incident.

A damaged Vauxhall Corsa was seen inside the cordon on Whitworth Road, which is around two miles away from Wardle Road where police say they were first called.

A crime scene investigation van was also parked at the scene with forensic officers seen combing the area for clues and placing yellow evidence markers on the road.
