Man arrested on suspicion of “illegal streaming”, police say

Cyber crime police have arrested a man on suspicion of “illegal streaming”, they said this evening.

The PSNI has released few details, however they say a number of items have been seized for forensic examination.

In a statement, the police said detectives have arrested a 32 year old man “and seized a number of electronic devices from a property in the Maghaberry area this evening (Tuesday 11th August)”.

They say officers conducted a search of a house in the area under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act, in which items were “removed for further forensic examination”.

Officers, they say, “were assisted by colleagues from the Cyber Crime Department in relation to the investigation”.

The man was “arrested on suspicion of copyright and fraud offences” and “is currently assisting police with their enquiries”.

Detective Sergeant Cargin said: “This proactive policing operation targeted the illegal streaming of media services. Although users may think this is a victimless crime, this large scale operation has a direct impact on businesses and consumers.”
