Man arrested on suspicion of firearms offences named

A man who is suspected of turning a fake gun into a working one was named by police.

Merseyside Police raided a home in Huyton on Thursday, May 19, following an investigation by the force. Amphetamine was recovered along with a bladed weapon.

Sean Aspinall, 23, of Beecham Close, Huyton, was charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, converting an imitation firearm into a firearm and possession of a controlled Class B drug (amphetamine). He was taken into custody for questioning.

Aspinall appeared at Liverpool Adult Remand Court this afternoon and was remanded into custody.

Merseyside Police is taking part in a national firearms surrender which finishes on Sunday, May 29, where people can hand over any firearms and ammunition in a responsible and safe way.

Detective Inspector John Mullen: “We encourage members of the public to hand in any firearms, which may be lawfully held, or imitation firearms to prevent them falling into the wrong hands. People can arrange an appointment for a firearm to be collected by calling police on 101, and this can be at a location of their choice.”
