Man arrested on suspicion of drug driving after early hours crash

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a crash in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to the scene on Oldham Road in Middleton just before 4.20am. Two cars were involved in the smash.

The man - aged in his 20s - was arrested by officers at the scene. He remains in custody being questioned on suspicion of driving with drugs in system.

Police said no-one is believed to have been injured in the crash. The road was fully shut off between Spring Vale and Baker Street as emergency services responded.

According to Transport for Greater Manchester, it was reopened by 6.45am this morning. A GMP spokesperson said: "We were called shortly before 4.20am to a report of a collision on Oldham Road in Middleton involving two cars. A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

"He’s being questioned in custody this morning. It doesn’t appear there were any injuries."
