A driver has been arrested after a man suffered serious injuries in a four vehicle crash.
The 55-year-old was held on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.
He has since been released under investigation and is currently in hospital being treated for minor injuries.
It came after a white Citroen Relay van crashed with a grey Toyota Corolla in Oldham town centre at about 10.10am on Saturday.
The van and the Toyota then smashed into a black Fiat 500L and a white Vauxhall Astra at the junction of Manchester Street and Tattersall Street.
The driver of the Toyota – a 50-year-old man – suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
He was taken to hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.
The driver of the Fiat – a 45-year-old woman – suffered minor injuries and was treated by emergency services at the scene.
She was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Police are appealing to for witnesses to come forward with information, including dash cam footage.
Sgt Matt Picton, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a nasty collision which has resulted in a man being seriously injured in hospital.
"We wish him a quick and healthy recovery.
"I want to hear from anyone who witnessed this collision, at what would have been a busy time of morning.
