Man arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after van smashes into three cars

A man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a van smashed into three cars in Bolton.

Emergency services were called to crash on Garstang Avenue, in the Breightmet area of the town, at around 7.30am yesterday (Thursday).

They found a van had smashed into three cars.

One man sustained minor injuries in the crash.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution.

No-one else was injured, police said.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving - he has since been released under investigation.

A police cordon was in place on Garstang Avenue after the crash yesterday.

Fire crews 'made the scene safe' while the road was closed off.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called at 7:30am to Garstang Avenue, Bolton today (6 May 2021) to reports of a collision involving a van and three cars.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries established that a van had collided with three cars.

"A man sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.

"A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving and has been released under investigation.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 7:30am on Thursday 6th May, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and van on Garstang Avenue, Bolton.

“One fire engine from Bolton North fire station quickly attended the scene.

"Firefighters made the scene safe and were in attendance for around 30 minutes.”
