Man arrested on suspicion of drink driving after car flipped on its roof

A car being driven by a suspected drink-driver crashed and flipped over on its roof in chaotic scenes.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) arrested a man on suspicion of drink driving following the crash in Huyton in the early hours of this morning (Friday, June 11).

Shortly before 3.15am, police were called to Court Hey Road, where it was reported a silver Volkswagen had smashed into a lamp-post and flipped upside down.

The car only narrowly missed a residential property and an Audi parked in the driveway.

No-one was injured, but the impact left the lamp-post leaning at an extreme right angle.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 30-year-old man from Knowsley, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He was taken into custody for questioning.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to call police on (0151) 777 5747, email: rpiu@merseyside.police.uk, or via @MerPolCC on Twitter, or 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre' on Facebook, with reference 21000407387.
