Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after victim, 35, attacked in the head with weapon

A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 35-year-old arrived at a hospital with serious head injuries.

Police were called to Old Liverpool Road in Warrington at around 11.15am today, March 21, to reports a man had been assaulted with a weapon.

The victim, a 35-year-old man from Widnes, suffered from serious injuries to his head during the attack.

He took himself to hospital following the incident, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 42-year-old man from the Warrington area, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently being questioned by police.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the attack to come forward in order to help with their investigation.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police, said: "At 11.15am on Saturday 21 March police were called to reports of a 35-year-old man being assaulted with a weapon on Old Liverpool Road in Warrington.

"The victim, from Widnes, received serious injuries to his head.

"He presented himself at hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

"A 42-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is in police custody for questioning.

"The investigation is in its early stages and enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what has taken place.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the assault, has any information to assist the investigation or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or through the website  https://www.cheshire.police.uk/  quoting IML 665579."
