Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing in Pontymister

A 47-year-old man from Risca has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an alleged stabbing last night.

Gwent Police were called to the scene of an incident at Llanarth Square in Pontymister near Newport at approximately 5.30pm on Friday, where a local man had received stab wounds to the back, chest and leg.

The man was taken to University Hospital of Wales where he is currently in a critical but stable condition.

Following the incident a 47-year-old man from Risca was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

He is currently in police custody.

In a statement Rod Grindlay, Chief Inspector at Gwent Police, said:

"At approximately 5.30pm on Friday 8 May, Gwent Police received a reported of an incident on Llanarth Square, Pontymister.

"A local man sustained stab wounds to the back, chest and leg. He was conveyed to University Hospital of Wales and is currently in a critical but stable condition.

"A 47-year-old man from Risca has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody."
