Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after 26-year-old shot in chest

A man is being quizzed on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was blasted in the chest in east Manchester.

Police were called to Bob Massey Close in Openshaw just before 8.30pm on Monday night to reports of a firearms discharge.

A 26-year-old man suffered a bullet wound to the chest and was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

On Thursday, GMP confirmed officers had arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

He is currently in custody for questioning.

A second man, aged 24, was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of money laundering.

He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A spokesman for GMP said police patrols have been increased in the area as a result of the incident.

"Officers are keen to stress that this is believed to have been an isolated incident and there is believed to be no further threat to the public," the force said in a statement.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 1146 referencing incident number 2878 of December 9 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
