Man arrested on suspicion of attempted armed robbery after police called to Spar shop

Armed police were called after a man allegedly entered a shop with a knife and threatened staff.

The incident took place at around 8.30am on Wednesday, May 6 at the Spar store in Pantside, Newbridge.

Witnesses saw armed officers surrounding the shop, in The Circle, as they responded to the attempted robbery.

A 32-year-old man was arrested and is now in police custody.

No one suffered injuries as a result of the incident.

A spokesman from Gwent Police said: "We received a report of an attempted robbery at the Spar store, Pantside, Newbridge at around 8.30am on Wednesday 6 May, when a man, armed with a knife, entered the shop,

"Officers have arrested a 32-year-old man from the Newbridge area on suspicion of affray and attempted armed robbery. He is currently in police custody."
