Man arrested on suspicion of arson following house fire in Bury

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a house fire in Bury

Fire crews were called to Palace Street just before midnight on Monday, June 1.

Three fire engines were sent after a concerned neighbour saw the blaze and phoned police.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said that on arrival, a 26-year-old male was seen leaving the property and was detained by officers.

Firefighters were sent to the first floor of the house to find the carpet and mattress in the bedroom “well alight”.

Crews managed to extinguish the fire and spent around an hour at the scene. A joint investigation was carried out which established electrics were not at fault.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 11:30pm on Monday, June 1, police were called to reports of a fire on Palace Street, Bury.

"A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson. He remains in custody for questioning."
