In the early hours of this morning, groups of men were filmed climbing on a lorry and then kicking and pelting a police van in the area around Castle Street and Brunswick Street.

Around 15 people were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder as the city  united in condemnation of the violence.

Dozens of fans and volunteers helped council officials clean up the astonishing amount of mess that was left behind at the Pier Head this morning.
