Man arrested, investigations continue after woman allegedly assaulted by men at Darwin beach

NT Police said about 7:00pm Friday, a 28-year-old female was allegedly assaulted by a group of men near Casuarina Beach.

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man following the alleged serious assault of a woman by a group of men at a popular Darwin beach on Friday night.

Officers said a 28-year-old woman was allegedly attacked about 7:00pm near Casuarina Beach in the city's northern suburbs.

Police said the woman managed to escape and was found injured by a passer-by on a nearby road.

She was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment and stayed three nights before being discharged today.

Police have not clarified whether the attack was a sexual assault.

On Monday, police issued a statement saying officers from the Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes Division arrested a 29-year-old on Saturday after searching two homes in Tiwi and Malak.

The man remains in custody but no charges have been laid.

Police said the men fled the scene of the alleged attack in two vehicles including a white medium-sized truck which was seized during the searches on Saturday.

A crime scene was still on place on Sunday morning with restricted access to the area past the Casuarina Surf Life Saving Club.

Police are now asking anyone who was in the area of Casuarina Coastal Reserve, Brinkin, Tiwi and Nakara between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm on Friday who may have dash-cam, GoPro or other video recording devices to contact them.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Hopwood said there were also several people in the general area at the time who may be able to help police.

"We request that anyone who was in the area between 6:00pm and 9:00pm contact police as they may have information that will assist with this investigation," he said.
