Man arrested in Rutherglen charged of murdering school teacher

A man who was arrested in Rutherglen at the weekend has been charged with the murder of a woman and the attempted murder of a 15-year-old boy.

Paul Robson, 49, was arrested at a property on Western Avenue on Friday – five days after school teacher Caroline Kayll was killed in Northumberland.

Robson, who is originally from Rutherglen, appeared at Bedlington Magistrates Court on Monday.

He is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on December 21.

Ms Kayll, 47, died in hospital after she and the teenage boy were attacked at a property in Linton, Northumberland on November 15.

The youth suffered serious, but non-life threatening, injuries and has since been discharged from hospital.

He is not related to Ms Kayll or Robson.

Ms Kayll worked at a school which caters for children with social, emotional and mental health issues.

In a statement, the centre, which is in Seghill, said: “Our school community is saddened to hear the news of Caroline’s passing.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this very difficult time.”

Detective Inspector Graeme Barr of Northumbria Police said: “A murder investigation is always tragic for all those involved and our thoughts go  out to the families at this very difficult time.”
