Man arrested in murder probe after caravan fire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a caravan fire at a scrapyard.

The 30-year-old was held after the blaze broke out at the premises in Newton Poppleford, East Devon, in the early hours of Thursday.

Devon and Cornwall Police were alerted at around 2.30am to reports of the fire and for the concerns of the welfare of a man inside the caravan.

Fire crews and the ambulance service also attended the scene and the body of a local man in his 40s was discovered, reports DevonLive .

"Officers from the major crime investigation team are currently in the initial stages of the investigation," a police spokesman said.

"Next of kin have been informed.

"A 30-year-old man of no fixed abode has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody."

The spokesman added: "A number of police officers and specialist resources will remain visible at the scene over the next few days as part of our enquiries into this death."
