Used car salesman charged with planning to travel overseas for 'hostile activities'

Police have not said where Mr Temssah allegedly sought to go.

A 29-year-old man who allegedly planned to travel overseas to engage in "hostile activities" has been remanded in custody after being arrested by counterterrorism police in Melbourne.

The Joint Counter Terrorism Team said they arrested Khaled Temssah just after 8.30am (AEST) on Thursday.

Mr Temssah was arrested at a Holden car dealership in Roxburgh Park, in Melbourne's north, where he worked as a used car salesman.

Victoria Police said there was no ongoing threat to the community as a result of their investigation.

Mr Temssah has been charged with "preparations for incursions into foreign countries for the purpose of engaging in hostile activities".

Police alleged the planning activity took place earlier this month, but have not said where he allegedly sought to go, or what he planned to do.

His lawyer appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today only to learn Mr Temssah had been remanded in custody last night.

Mr Temssah is due to appear in court again for a committal hearing on September 26.

Victoria Police said the arrest came as a result of Operation Kozjak, but was not related to any previous operational activity.
