Man arrested in Lurgan after he 'brandished gun' at good Samaritans

One man has been arrested after an incident in Co Armagh when a "gun" was allegedly "brandished" at members of the public.

The incident unfolded on Friday afternoon at the rear of buildings in the Centrepoint complex in Lurgan .

A PSNI spokesman said: "Police received a report of a man armed with a firearm in the Portadown Rd area of Lurgan at around 3.50pm on Friday.

"Officers attended and arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm or imitation firearm in suspicious circumstances and two counts of possession of Class C controlled drugs."

A source explained how members of the public remained inside the bingo hall as the situation was dealt with outside.

He said: "One man had injured his leg. It seems he fell near a fence in a car park and was crying out in pain.

"Two members of the public, who were unknown to him, approached him to help.

"But they reported that the man pulled what looked like a gun on them.

"They retreated and called the police and an ambulance. The injured man was arrested and taken by ambulance for treatment for a leg injury.

"No one else suffered any injuries in the incident and the public were allowed back into and out of the Centrepoint complex."

Police added: "An imitation fire arm was recovered along with a quantity of suspected Class C drugs.

"The man is currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries."
