A man has been arrested after armed police swooped on a car and found a knife in Harpurhey.
Officers with armed with guns and tasers surrounded a vehicles near a car wash on Pleasant Street, off Rochdale Road on Wednesday.
Police have now confirmed that a knife was recovered from the car.
A man, 32, was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article. He remains in police custody.
The driver of the car was arrested but later released without charge.
A GMP statement said: "At around 11.13am yesterday (Wednesday 21 April 2021) officers stopped a car on Pleasant Street in the Harpurhey area of Manchester.
"One passenger in the car, a 32-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article following officers locating a knife in the car. He remains in custody.
"The driver, a 41-year-old man was also arrested but was later released without charge."
Adbullah Sadaqat, who runs the Manchester Car Wash nearby, said on Wednesday a car pulled in before being 'surrounded by police cars'.
"There must have been around six or seven police cars - some of them were unmarked and the police had guns.
"They surrounded the car", he told the M.E.N .
“There were three men and a woman in the car."
