Man arrested in connection with suspicious death of person found in Greenock flat

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a man found in a Greenock flat.

Emergency services were called to Nelson Street at approximately 5.45am on Sunday, where the fatally injured man was found.

The man, who has not been identified, died at the scene.

Police Scotland say they are treating the death as suspicious and a 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything unusual in the area between midnight and 5.45am to come forward.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death however police are treating it as suspicious at this time.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

"A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident as well as the identity of the deceased.

"Detective Inspector Linda Dunn at Greenock CID would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Nelson Street, Greenock between midnight and 5.45am this morning, Sunday 24 March 2019 and who may have witnessed anything suspicious."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Greenock on 101, quoting incident number 1032 of 24 March 2019.
