Man arrested in connection with spate of arson attacks in Edinburgh

A man has been arrested in connection with a series of arson attacks in Edinburgh on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old was charged after four vehicles, a house and an Indian takeaway were targeted between 4.55am and 5.55am.

The cars were set alight on Silverknowes Eastway, Silverknowes Avenue and Cramond Road South.

Part of a property on Main Street, Davidson's Mains and a post box on Silverknowes Road were also set alight.

Nobody was injured in any of the incidents.

A police spokesman said: “A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of fire raising incidents in Edinburgh.

“He has been charged in connection with a number of fires in the Silverknowes area of the city in the early hours of Wednesday, 27 January.

“He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, 28 January.”

Detective Sergeant Dougal Begg of Edinburgh CID said: “We would urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity to come forward as soon as possible.

“In particular we would be keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage or private CCTV in the area.

“If you have any information which help our investigation please call 101, quoting incident 0341 of 27 January, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
