LOS ANGELES _ A 19-year-old Oakland man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that wounded five people at Oceano Dunes state park early Sunday, authorities said.
Investigators arrested Francisco Orozco as a suspect in the shooting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office. Orozco was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and held on $500,000 bail.
It remained unclear Sunday night what led to the shooting.
Six people were hospitalized, five of whom suffered gunshot wounds, said Grace Norris, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office. She could not immediately comment on the severity of the injuries.
The Sheriff's Office said in its statement that detectives consider the shooting an "isolated incident."
The victims were shot at the south end of the Oceano Dunes, a Central California state vehicular recreation area with more than five miles of beach and dunes that is also open for off-roading. The area is 15 miles south of San Luis Obispo.
The shooting occurred at a popular campsite, but Norris could not say exactly what the crowd was doing at the time. It also remains unclear what type of gun was used or how the victims knew one another.
